KAWS Companion Arrives at the Rockefeller Center

Brian Donnelly (A.K.A KAWS) takes over one of the most iconic places in New York City. The monumental COMPANION sculpture stands tall right in the middle of the Rockefeller Center, holding a smaller scale pink BFF as if were its plush toy. KAWS' repertoire of characters are by now well-loved and easily recognized by the public and will surely attract a lot of curious visitors.

SHARE: COMPANION & BFF

Needles to say, the Brooklyn-based artist is having a moment as he currently has a solo-exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum and his sculptures have recently occupied other important landmarks in the New York City landscape.

Sunday morning, the artist announced on his Instagram that a COMPANION had just been installed at the Rockefeller Center. MAD54 rushed to see it and found it still partially wrapped. Today we were able to see it fully uncovered, pink BFF revealed.

SHARE, the 18-foot bronze sculpture showcasing COMPANION and BFF, is a commission for the Rockefeller Center and will be on view through October 29. Similarly to other COMPANION appearances across the city, SHARE is made possible with the support from Tishman Speyer and Skarstedt Gallery. SHARE will officially open this upcoming Wednesday August 11th. Make sure to mark your calendar and not miss the incredible opportunity to see a New York landmark in combination with a work by one of the most important American contemporary artists.
